but… you just missed my point.
Treating cancer enables one’s body to function properly.
Using birth control as birth control forces one’s body to malfunction (forcing the reproductive system to purposely not reproduce).
“Quality of life” is a really shitty argument. Here’s a few examples why.
Disabled people are denied their right to life and are aborted because people decide that their “quality of life” won’t be high enough.
That’s problematic.
A lot of “quality of life” arguments also come from classism. Well, of COURSE the poor people are going to have a shitty “quality of life” if they have babies. Heaven forbid people reproduce and create another human being to take care of!
Biologically speaking, that is the function of the reproductive system. The function of the body is to, well, function. When there’s a malfunction, medicine should fix it. Medicine should not CAUSE malfunctions.
Now, whether or not birth control is good or bad medicine is a side issue with the HHS mandate controversy.
I think I failed to make this clear in my first response, and I apologize.
The Church does not want to pay to provide birth control to its employees. It is not seeking to make birth control impossible to provide, nor is it seeking to make birth control illegal. These would be forcing our beliefs on the state. However, the RCC does wish to be free to choose to not provide birth control as to be forced to do so is comparable to forcing Jewish delis to sell pork to customers.
