I support none of the candidates we have right now. I just… I can’t. Obama is problematic. The GOP are … the GOP. Ugh.
The only “moderate” candidate that there is (Romney, I THINK, ID’s as moderate, but I could be wrong) makes me sad.
There just …. aren’t any good choices atm.
Obama is forcing Catholic institutions to pay for birth control.
Birth control, when used as birth control, and not for some overarching reason (such as PMDD, for one example) is bad medicine. Good medicine helps one’s body to function properly. IE, giving insulin to diabetics, glasses to those with eye problems, innoculations to those with weak immune systems. Heart transplants are another example. These things are good because they help one’s body to function properly according to how biology is meant to function. The reproductive system is there to cause reproduction.
Birth control makes this not happen. (YOU DON’T SAY?!)
however, this is why it’s bad medicine. Sexuality is something animal species in particular have to enable reproduction. Non-human animals don’t have artificial reproductive technologies (and that’s its OWN topic. If you’d like to discuss that, we very much can, just in a separate post). Now, obviously everything about the animal world is not meant for human beings to glorify and copy (eating one’s young, for example, tends to be a bad thing)
However, the whole reason we have birth control is because people want consequence-free sexual activity. However, sexual activity has inherent consequences. Even if one subverts one’s biology in order to ensure that reproduction happens, there are still other things to sex that happen. Such as certain chemicals being released in one’s brain that makes bonding happen between two people.
When, exactly, did birth control become “basic medicine”? Because I thought basic medicine referred to keeping people alive. Enabling consequence-free sex is in a totally different ballpark.
Great question; please come back if I didn’t give you a good enough explanation :)
